In the Big Inning….

February 2, 2008

I remember the first baseball game that my father took me to, it was a game that shaped my life. Not because the game was that exciting, but because of the home team. The game was in Arlington, Texas in a stadium that is now a parking lot for the The Ballpark in Arlington, or Ameriquest Field, or whatever the new name of the field is now.

Yes…I am a Texas Rangers fan…which puts me in a minority outside the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. It also puts me in a minority due to the fact that the Rangers have only been to the playoffs three times in team history…and their combined record in those three trips is 1-9…having lost in the first round each time to the hated New York Yankees. The Rangers have finished last or next to last more times than they have finished first or second…so needless to say, my choice of teams is not a popular choice, but because it was the first team I ever saw play, they certainly have an important part of how I became a baseball fan.

Beyond being a Texas Ranger fan and a NY Yankee hater…I am a baseball fan, from little league baseball, to Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, NM, to NCAA Div. I baseball, to the College World Series, to Minor League, to the Major League, I have seen baseball at all stages, and I love it….my friends, and family have come to just accept that when baseball season starts, I become obsessed with the current season stats, records, standings, and players at as many levels of baseball as I can possibly squeeze into my head. Some of my friends simply know me as Statsman…which is a nickname I have had for a long time, simply because I just love stats.

One of my goals for this blog is to give my take on games, players, stats, etc, for a variety of games, either at the MLB level, the Minor League level, or the College level…after all it is all baseball.
